This 2014 Memorial Day post is not exactly a methylation-based presentation, but still worth your thoughtful consideration. Adrenal fatigue is a plague that impacts everyone whether we are genetically imbalanced or not. We cannot live without stress, yet our world seems to be running wild with stressful situations. It takes a toll on each and every one of us whether we know it or not. In this video I lay out the groundwork for why adrenal fatigue is such a big problem. I explain how stress in its many forms manifests itself in a predictable fashion inside our bodies – impacting our gut, brain, cardiovascular, immune, and endocrine system. The goal for the viewer is to learn to recognize the effects of stress, and learn what we can do to help our bodies overcome the stress. Knowledge of what the problem is must come first before going out and trying to fix it. And this video explains in detail exactly what adrenal fatigue does to our bodies. The most common signs of adrenal fatigue are:
- insomnia
- depression
- anxiety
- chronic colds and flu
- low thyroid function
- inability to tolerate exercise, or stress at work and home
- chronic fatigue
- unable to wake up without coffee or stimulants
- afternoon fatigue
- narcolepsy
- Raynaud’s and POTS-type dysautonomia
- cancer
- weight gain despite diet and exercise
- infertility
- irritable bowel
- GERD and acid reflux
- chronic yeast infections – vagina, throat, and gut
- and more
Simply stated, the above health problems are often the result of an imbalance in our stress response. Meaning, when levels of cortisol and epinephrine/norepinephrine get out of balance, it drives our system into dysfunction. The hormones and catecholamines produced by the adrenal glands are powerful, life-necessary compounds that allow us to adapt to our environment. However, chronic stress and the resulting adrenal fatigue impairs our physiology due to the negative side effects of these powerful biomolecules.
Stress may just be the biggest threat we face to our health. It doesn’t even matter what genes you inherited. If your body / mind / spirit is constantly living a space where it feels like it is running for its life, the net effect will be multiple system breakdown. Chronic stress will impair all non-essential body systems, including methylation, since building a better, healthier body is something we do AFTER we’ve survived our bout with the saber-toothed tiger. Stress shifts the body’s resources into fighting or running away. And to that end, it causes negative effects (on top of all our genetic imbalances mind you) to our digestion, detoxification, neurological, immune and energy systems. And what are the main complaints from patients dealing with methylation imbalances??? You get the picture. Enjoy the show and as always, share it and reach out if you have any comments or questions.
