Autoimmunity. It is becoming more common. In fact, autoimmune disease is now the third leading cause of death in the world! These conditions are ravaging our society causing people to live with pain, inflammation, and debilitating health challenges. Diagnoses such as celiac, hashimoto’s, lupis, sjogren’s, rheumatoid, and others are becoming more common, not less. These chronic inflammatory problems can be caused by toxins, viruses, bacteria, and stress from a leaky gut – issues we all face in our modern, hectic world.
Yet with all the pain and suffering that comes from these conditions, we can trust that the body is not making a mistake. Sound hard to believe? Well its true! Autoimmune disease is an extreme expression of a natural process. The body uses antibodies (attacks itself) in order to remove old or injured cells; the more injured our cells become the more autoimmune inflammation you will experience. By improving the health of cells with targeted nutritional support, we can address the problem of autoimmunity at its source. Despite all the nasty symptoms we experience with autoimmune reactions, they must still be understood as an intelligent response by our bodies to a toxic insult!
Getting the right nutrients into the body can help reduce inflammation and prevent damage caused by the autoimmune process. The supplements below provide targeted support for inflammatory issues in all areas of the body – helping the gut and the brain and everywhere in between.
Recommended Diet for Autoimmune Disease:
There are many popular diets today – paleo, GAPS, SCD, vegetarian, vegan, etc. Due to inflammation in my own body, I prefer a “modified” paleo diet – organic meat, vegetables, nuts/seeds, healthy fats, and small amounts of rice or gluten-free grains. Due to the nature of autoimmune disease, it is important to avoid foods like gluten, dairy and soy which can be very pro-inflammatory.
With that thinking in mind, I recommend a “paleo-style” Modified Elimination Diet for patients with autoimmune challenges. You may view and print my notes and diet recommendations below:
Recommended Supplement Protocol:
Dynamic Inflam-Eze – 2 scoops 1 or 2x day. Mix into 8-12oz of water and drink immediately. Use as a meal replacement or snack throughout the day.†
Inflam-Eze Plus – 1 3x day with food. Designed to target underlying issues—such as kinase signaling and specific nutrient levels—that have been associated with healthy immune system activity.†
OmegaPure EPA-DHA:1000 – 3 capsules 2x day with food. EPA – DHA 1000 features a concentrated, purified source of pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 fatty acids from sustainably sourced, cold-water fish.†
D3 5000 w/K2 – 1 daily with breakfast. Features 5000 IU of vitamin D3 in easy- to-swallow softgels. This bioavailable form of vitamin D is solubilized in oil to support absorption in the intestinal tract .†
HCl Support – HCl stomach acid that will support the digestion and break down of your food. Take this product right at the end of the meal. To find out what dose is best for you, please see the HCl stomach acid instructions page.†
Methyl Complete – 1 or 2 tablets, 2x per day with meals. A comprehensive formula that features L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate—a body-ready, nature identical folate—along with vitamins B6 and methylated B12, trimethylglycine, and choline. Together, these nutrients support methylation, which promotes healthy homocysteine metabolism. This is Dr. Rostenberg’s favorite methylation support product.†
I recommend that my patients with autoimmune issues use the nutrition listed above for 8 to 12 weeks. Typically results are seen in a short period of time. Due to the complex nature of autoimmune diseases, it may take several weeks for the inflammation to calm down and for changes to be seen.
